Guest Editorship Opportunity in Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods

The Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods is committed to publishing rigorous, authoritative research and review articles regarding the quality and safety of food and food sources including cereals, grains, oilseeds, fruits, root crops, and animal sources. These are offered only to experienced and rigorous author-reviewers to further develop their careers.  If you are an experienced author or reviewer, the editors would be very pleased to consider a Proposal from you.

Responsibilities and duties of a guest editor:

They will take the lead in selecting the scope of articles for a Special Issue of their choice. They would not be expected to carry out desk rejects on poor quality or out-of-scope submissions or to select reviewers. However, once reviews are returned, they would take the Editor's role in requesting revisions and recommending manuscripts for acceptance. Any assistants to the Guest Editor could help define the scope of the special issue and act as key reviewers in the way, associate editors do on regular journal submissions. The Special Issue would be headed by an editorial from the Guest Editors. Because of the large number of articles in any given issue of, Special Issues would usually be expected to be the leading section of a regular issue.

For publication in Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods, Special Issues should collate papers and reflections on specific topics in our rapidly moving field and take an analytic (not purely descriptive) stance. The quality of all papers included needs to be very high.

Proposals should detail the following:

  • Title of the Special Issue
  • Guest editor(s)
  • Rationale for publications with specific detail on how the Special Issue will make a timely and significant contribution to the field; include how it will progress thinking in the specific topic area and why the special issue is needed now.
  • Detail how your proposal meets Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods Aims and Scope.
  • Specify a minimum of 10 papers (authors, institutions + titles) that you believe are close to publication and would submit to your Special Issue. (Note an open call for papers to the Quality Assurance and Safety of Crops & Foods community will also be made in order to supplement a guest editor’s proposal and ensure wide representation from the field).

The deadline for submission of proposals for the next special issue is February 28th, 2022. If you would like to avail of this, please send a 1-page outline to Co-editor in chief who will collate replies for the editors. The guest editors should make use of recent citations to justify the topicality of their proposal. While proposals that show potent support from a team of assistant editors or prospective authors will be given precedence.
