“The International Conference on Food and Applied Bioscience 2026 (FAB 2026) – The Food Singularity: Converging Sustainable AgriTech to Frontier Food Era”

The focus of the special issue

Nowadays, global landscapes are rapidly evolving in agriculture, food, biotechnology, packaging, and consumer technology, which increase the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of innovation. Traditional farming and production provide low-value commodities, which are no longer enough to meet modern market demands. A shift toward high-value and premium-grade products, characterized by strict quality and safety standards, is essential for long-term growth. The key to transformation lies in integrating advanced technologies and innovative approaches, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of stakeholders across the entire value chain, both upstream and downstream. From innovative biotechnology, intelligent food processing, sustainable packaging, to AI-powered decision-making, technologies are shaping how we produce, process, and deliver high-quality food. Combination technologies not only help buffer price volatility but also open new markets in functional food, health-focused, and plant-based food sectors. The growing global demand for functional foods, future foods (such as cultured meat, alternative proteins, and insect-based nutrition), and digitally enhanced food systems reflects a shift in consumer priorities toward health, sustainability, and personalization. Innovation is not only a tool for improving food quality but also a strategic driver of differentiation and competitiveness.

In the face of accelerating global challenges like climate instability, population growth, resource scarcity, and nutritional insecurity, the future of food must be fundamentally reimagined. We are reaching a key turning point: Food Singularity. This moment signifies not only a technological revolution in how we produce and consume food but also a transformation of our entire relationship with the food system itself. This special issue aims to highlight the frontiers where agricultural technology intersects with food innovation, driving new paradigms in sustainability, precision, and resilience. From AI-powered vertical farms and carbon-smart cultivation to cultured proteins, bio-designed ingredients, and circular food economies, these are no longer speculative ideas but active areas of research and development.

As editors of this special issue, “The International Conference on Food and Applied Bioscience 2026 (FAB 2026) - The Food Singularity: Converging Sustainable AgriTech to Frontier Food Era,” we believe that true progress does not come from isolated excellence but from convergence across disciplines, geographies, and ideologies. Join us in shaping a bold, regenerative, and equitable food future. Let us define the singularity not as a point of no return, but as a leap toward planetary nourishment and resilience. We invite researchers from around the world to contribute cutting-edge original research, reviews, case studies, and perspective articles that explore, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Technological breakthroughs in sustainable AgriTech
  • The interface between digital agriculture, innovative food systems, and biotechnology
  • Food, Nutrition and Health Bioscience
  • Future foods: novel proteins, cellular agriculture, and food from fermentation
  • Sustainable Bioresource Processing and Engineering
  • Bio-food Innovation and Product Development
  • Food Microbiology and Safety
  • Microbial Biosystems and Biomanufacturing
  • Biosensors and Consumer Insights
  • Sustainable Food Biosystems and Packaging
  • Policy, ethics, and scalability of next-generation food systems
  • Systemic integration of sustainability metrics in food innovation
  • Other related topics
